Challenges for non-invasive brain perfusion quantification using arterial spin labeling.
Arterial Spin Labeling (ASL) sequences for perfusion Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) have recently become available to be used in the clinical practice, offering a completely non-invasive technique for the quantitative evaluation of brain perfusion. Despite its great potential, ASL perfusion imaging still presents important methodological challenges before its incorporation in routine protocol...

Y. Yang, H. Gu, E. A. Stein Neuroimaging Research Branch, National Institute on Drug Abuse, Baltimore, MD, United States Introduction Functional MRI (fMRI) techniques based on BOLD (blood oxygenation level-dependent) and CBF (cerebral blood flow) (1,2) contrasts have been used extensively for mapping functional neuroanatomy. Recently, an fMRI technique based on cerebral blood volume (CBV) chang...
متن کاملModified quadruple inversion recovery prepulse for arterial spin labeling angiography without the need of subtraction
Introduction Arterial Spin Labeling (ASL) is a well-known technique that allows the non-invasive acquisition of angiograms without the need of a contrast agent [1][2]. ASL angiography is still clinically underused because of several challenges [3]: ASL requires two acquisitions (labeled and non labeled dataset) thereby doubling scan time. The need of subtraction increases the sensitivity to spa...
متن کاملA technical perspective for understanding quantitative arterial spin-labeling MR imaging using Q2TIPS.
We illustrate the fundamental theoretical principles of arterial spin-labeling (ASL) magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and show a system that employs the second version of quantitative imaging of perfusion using a single subtraction (Q2TIPS) to quantify cerebral blood flow (CBF). We also discuss the effects of the parameters used in Q2TIPS on CBF values as measured with ASL-MRI.

Introduction: The increased longitudinal relaxation time of the blood at ultrahigh field (UHF) can improve non-contrast enhanced perfusion imaging using arterial spin labeling (ASL), especially for targeted tissues with long arterial transit times and/or intrinsic low perfusion, such as the prostate. One well-known challenge for UHF imaging is the destructive interference of RF pulses (1), whic...
